Online Writing Workshop: When we have a story to tell, many of us pull from our memories or the memories of others in our lives to create and shape the meaning we seek to convey. Yet memories can be unreliable sources of information that often require further exploration in order to find the real story buried within. In this workshop, participants will explore how memory plays a role in memoir and nonfiction writing so that they may begin or further their own writing. Through reading and discussing writing about place, language, and identity, participants will see how the use of such vital memories can uncover details that affect our personal narratives and sometimes, reveal new truths about our very own lives. We will spend time engaging in writing exercises and reflection to help delve into our memories so that we may discover how they can be used effectively to build and shape our personal narratives and write more fully about our lived experience(s).
Whether one is just beginning to explore writing or is working on honing one’s craft, writers at any level are welcome!
